About Wendy Davidson
Background
Born and raised in Angus, I was Dux in Art at Brechin High School with a portfolio ready to apply for Edinburgh College of Art.
However, I decided to become a primary teacher studying at Moray House College of Education in Edinburgh.
Career
My career in education was wide ranging, cumulating in me specialising in including children with complex and profound additional support needs in mainstream settings, while undertaking Post Graduate studies documenting my work with children, their families and staff alike.
I used the Expressive Arts extensively as a communication tool.
This led me to lecture in Education on both the Aberdeen and Dundee campuses of Northern College of Education. I lectured on children’s schematic development on the Dundee campus using art as a therapeutic communication tool.
On moving to Edinburgh 17 years ago, I was in management positions in several Edinburgh City Council Schools.
During this time, family life was hectic, raising three sons, two of whom now live and work in Bangkok and Sydney, respectively. I spend extended periods of times with my sons and have a library of scenes from both countries just ready to paint.
Personal Development
I have undertaken Continued Personal Development in drawing and painting:
- Duncan of Jordanstone Dundee
- Drawing on the right hand side of the brain in Angus
- Several oil painting and summer schools at Edinburgh College of Art
- Studied Portraiture at Edinburgh Portrait Gallery
- Painting flowers at Edinburgh Drawing school
- During lockdown, I undertook every online module with Robinwood School of Art for over a 2-year period.
Painting mainly in oils and painting cityscapes of Edinburgh at the moment, I love to capture my adopted city’s iconic landmarks and excellent architecture, trying to evoke the atmosphere of the city scenes at different times of day and in different light conditions.
I am currently exhibiting in two Edinburgh galleries namely Graystone Gallery in Stockbridge and Colinton Arts in Colinton.
